The aim of this term paper is to study problems of translating and non- translating in translation theory. For this it is necessary to solve the following tasks: 1. To show in what way translation of the words that have (and don’t have) lexical correspondences in the Kazakh language is realized. 2. To analyse characteristics and methods of translation of English figurative phraseology. 3. To give a notion of lexical transformation and its kinds. 4. Describe methods of creation of contextual substitutes. The subject of this research is a problem of translating and non-translating The object of the research is methods of solving problem of translating and non-translating on the basis of novel “Woman in white” by Wilkie Collins. The methods of investigation: • Method of comparison: This method is used in drawing similarities and differences between the theories taken from various investigations. • Demonstration method: Some authentic materials are presented with the help of this method. • However, in the 19th century, with the development of historical-comparative linguistics, linguists began to realize the sheer diversity of human language, and to question fundamental assumptions about the relationship between language and logic. It became apparent that there was no such thing as a most natural way to express a thought, and therefore logic could no longer be relied upon as a basis for studying the structure of language. The structure of the course work is: Introduction, three chapters and Conclusion. In part one we have studied theory of translation. In part two we have studied translation of phraseological units. In part three we have studied lexical transformations and methods of creation of contextual substitutes
