The theme of the course paper is “The Criticism of Translation. The Assessment of Translation Quality”. The functional status of a translation is supported by its structural and semantic similarity with the original. The translator is expected to refrain from any remarks or intrusions in his text which may betray his authorship thereof. He is expected to efface himself as fully as he can to avoid interference with the process of communication between S and TR. The object of the work is criticism and assessment of translation. The subject of the research is the ways of criticism and assessment quality of translation. Concerning everything saying above we can point out the aim of our investigation: to look through the criticism of translation and its quality assessment. In order to achieve the aim there must be several objectives: - to define the types and meaning of translation; - to look through the criteria for the evaluation of translation; - to show the place of translation criticism within translation studies; - to give characteristics of assessment in translation; - to define the notion of translation problem and error; - to regard the instruments of assessment in translation; - to analyze the literary text and evaluate its translations. The course paper consists of introduction, two chapters, conclusion, bibliography and appendix.
