Current importance Despite the fact that there are a lot of studies on the problems of abbreviation in the modern languages, linguistically it is still has open items as they have to be considered under the specific perspective of such fundamental issues as the problem of the structure of word and its meaning, the problem of the morpheme, and etc. This explains the complexity of divergent views, and sometimes controversial approach to abbreviations. Translation of abbreviations and shortened words has always been a hot topic for study, but in the past decade it became more important. The main aim of the research is to describe abbreviations and analyze difficulties and peculiarities of translating them. This aim has identified the following tasks to be solved within the frame of the research: • to review linguistic literature about this theme; • to study existing classification of abbreviations; • to identify functions of abbreviations; • to characterize methods of translation of abbreviations; • to identify and analyze peculiarities of translation of abbreviations on the basis of materials used in construction sphere. The structure of the course work is: Introduction, two chapters, Conclusion and Bibliography.
