The given theme of the course paper is of current importance (актуальность), because it deals with the following interesting notions: why there is a language, why people speak in different languages, though the speaker can meet various words from any language in his speech. These words are called borrowings from Scandinavian and French languages, and the present work will observe how they came into our language. The main aim (цель)of the research is to study borrowings from from Scandinavian and French languages. The aim has identified the following tasks (задачи) of the research: • to consider historical background of origin of English in Old English and Middle English • to investigate borrowings in Old English and Middle English • to analyze borrowings from the Scandinavian and French languages The novelty (новизна) of the research are the impact of historical events on the development of English vocabulary is studied; studied role of borrowings in the development of English vocabulary; the card-index of languages is defined
