The aim of the course paper is to study thoroughly polysemantic words in the English language. The main aim of the course paper sets the following tasks: o to study thoroughly Polysemantic and Monosemantic words in the English language. o to identify types of semantic components o to describe polysemy under synchronical and diachronical approaches; o to show development of new meanings of polysemantic words. The novelty of the course paper is in the detailed investigation of polysemantic words and to show the difference between polysemy and homonymy. The theoretical value of the research is in the theoretical approach to the given work and to understand deeply Polysemy in the English language. The practical value of the research is that the practical results and conclusions can be used at the seminars and practical lessons. The structure of the course paper is as follows: Introduction, 2 chapters, conclusion and the used literature. The Introduction deals with the content of the qualification paper. The first chapter deals with lexical meaning and semantic structure of English word. The second chapter deals with Meaning and Polysemy. Conclusion deals with the theoretical and practical results of the course paper. The list of used literatures deals with the list of literature used in the course paper.
