The current importance of this issue is evident because there is big confuse between linguistic metaphor and linguistic metonymy nowadays.
The main aim of the present research is to study the problem of distinguishing between linguistic metaphor and linguistic metonymy. This aim has identified the following tasks to be solved within the frame of the research:
• To study the concept of linguistic metaphor, its functions and features
• To investigate the notion of linguistic metonymy, its characteristics
• To analyze linguistic metaphors and metonymies in the works of authors of Victorian era
The novelty of the research is to study linguistic metaphor and metonymy based on known novels.
